If faith is ‘trusting in something you cannot explicitly prove’, then anyone or anything can be the recipient of our faith.
If it seems that God has turned his back on you, where would you place your faith?

Having lost everything he ever loved, suffering from PTSD and recently released from prison after serving a long sentence, Virender Singh welcomes the quiet and solitude of his secluded cabin in the Himalayan Mountains. But he is not as alone as it seems.

A stray dog has already taken up residence in the cabin and despite being incredibly cautious of the new owner, he shows no intention of leaving. Despite his aversion towards caring for anything ever again, Virender wins the dog’s trust and loyalty, eventually naming him after a major source of his heartbreak.

Even as he tries to lead a normal life making friends with the local Butcher, experimenting with drugs and engaging the services of local prostitutes - the dog becomes Virender’s reason for living. But when you love something so much and place all your faith in it, what happens if it gets taken away?

Shailendra Singh’s next cinema, ‘Dog’ is a stark, dramatic thriller

Even while celebrating the stunning release of his film Unplugged in Mumbai starring Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, Shailendra Singh is completing post-production on his next full-length feature film, Dog. Shailendra not only directs the film, but wrote the film’s suspenseful screenplay and stars as the withdrawn, haunted lead protagonist.

Shailendra describes the film as “a stark, dramatic thriller set in the cold, solitary landscape of the Himalayan Mountains. It’s Kiranraj K’s 777 Charlie meets Machoian’s The Killing of Two Lovers’. If faith is ‘trusting in something you cannot explicitly prove’, then anyone or anything can be the recipient of our faith. If it seems that God has turned his back on you, where would you turn?”

After producing 72 feature films and being a major power-player in Indian cinema for over 20 years, Shailendra’s current passion is to use his global sensibilities to tell Indian-centric stories for global consumption. In order to do this, he’s been involved in every single aspect of the filmmaking for Dog – even the highly unique music score.

In order to perfectly balance the intense beauty of the snow-covered, mountain landscapes with the protagonist’s intense inner turmoil – a compelling portrait of male PTSD - Shailendra worked closely with the film’s composer’s to capture analog, organic sounds from rural and urban landscapes – and then mix them into a completely original, riveting soundtrack.

This is not Shailendra’s first time in front of the cameras, either. Shailendra made his acting debut in the emotional road-trip film, Diversion – which he wrote and directed. After running India’s first local and global talent agency for movies, music and sports, ranking as the ‘12th Most Powerful Man in Bollywood’ (Filmfare, 2009) and called the ‘StarMaker’ (Stardust, 2018), Shailendra’s current journey in film finds him diving deep in to the heart of the storytelling itself – a shift from being in business, to being the business.

“In films, I’ve been there and done that,” says Shailendra. “But I’ve never lost the awe and wonder that I have for films. I have all these stories inside of me that need to find their way out, and I’m exploring all ways and forms of doing that. No expectations, and no limitations. Whatever the story needs from me, I will do it.”

At just 19 years old, Sergei Polunin became the youngest ever Principal for the London Royal Ballet. He was called ‘the best dancer of his generation’. At age 21, in a move that shocked the ballet world, he quit. His rampant partying, bewildering comments to the press and unprofessional behaviour earned him a new title – ‘the bad boy of ballet’.

Now, eight years later, at a chance encounter in Amsterdam, Sergei Polunin accepts the invitation of India’s Entertainment and Sports Guru, Shailendra Singh, to travel around India. Over the course of seven days, Sergei Polunin follows his newfound mentor to some of the holiest places of the world, along the sacred banks of the Ganges River. Without hesitation, he immerses himself in mystical experiences and takes time out to narrate deep reflections of his life.

Sergei’s journey in the art world has been well-documented, but never before has been as candid and genuine about his inner most feelings and the mind space he finds himself in at this stage in his life. In Varanasi, they merge with the thousands that gather for the Ganga Aarti (nightly prayers to the Mother River) and visit the Manikarnika Ghat (cremation riverfront) where families burn the bodies of their deceased love ones, in the hope they will break the cycle of death and birth and attain nirvana.

Sitting in a boat, in the middle of the divine river, he discusses how, when he was born, his mother thought he was from India and how the path of his life veered from the light, towards to the darkness and back again. In Jaipur, he watches a traditional sufi dancer, wanders through the ‘Palace of Mirrors’ and discusses the earliest days of his dancing, when he didn’t even realize that it was ‘art’. In Rishikesh, he chats with Shailendra along the same Ganges River and discusses his karma and feelings on humanity. He meets the local children and offers flowers and candles into the sparkling blue rapids before taking a holy,
sin-cleansing bath in its frigid water.

Throughout the journey, Sergei feels a slowly unfolding, but powerful attraction to Lord Shiva. In the course of getting to know him better, understanding the cycles of destruction and rebuilding that Sergei manifested in his own life, Shailendra tells him, ‘for me, you are an incarnation of Shiva.’ Guided by Shailendra Singh, Sergei’s journey through India is an adventure that leaves its mark on him. It not only changes him, but vicariously, it holds the potential to change us all.

Kacche Din | Raw Days -
Award winning Film by Shailendra Singh
Starring : Deepak Dobriyal / Yashpal Sharma

It’s called the Maximum City, but Mumbai is still a work in progress.

In Shailendra Singh's Kache Din, multiple award winner and India's most beloved theater and film actor, Deepak Dobriyal gives a gripping performance as a migrant taxi driver, barely earning enough to eat on the unfinished, congested streets of Mumbai City. While trying to keep a distance, but ultimately getting pulled in to the lives of his passengers - including a PE teacher played by the indelible Yashpal Sharma - he also has a run in with a police officer and a harrowing encounter with a slick pimp (Ashrut Jain), and his lady of the night (Teena Singh).

It’s called the Maximum City, but Mumbai is still a work in progress. The taxi driver knows that each of his passengers is just trying to get by in this struggle of a life, just like he is. They are all just like the city they live in, a little bit raw.
— Shailendra Signh, Director and Writer

Kache Din has won big at at United States, European and Indian Festivals, including 'Special Festival Mention' at the 2018 Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival, 'Best Foreign Short Film' and 'Best Director ' at 2018 Northern Virginia International Film Festival, and 'Best Short Film' at Virgin Spring Cinefest, amongst many others.

unplugged cinema by Shailendra Singh

The destination is the same, but the journey can take you anywhere.

Very early one morning, before the sun even appears over the horizon, our nameless protagonist packs his bag, hops in his car and leaves the concrete jungle of Mumbai. He drives alone on endless kilometers of highway. We do not know where is going, nor why.

But we do know that he has a reason for this journey, albeit one that truly frustrates him. We can see it in his eyes, the determination that keeps him focused on the road, and can hear it in his voice as talks to himself in exasperation.

Throughout the 2,000 km that he travels across seven states in India, the resentment turns to acceptance and then to celebration; and the reason for his expedition unveils itself. He is honoring a relationship.

He pauses for a herd of sheep crossing the road outside of Surat, spends a sleepless night in Ahmedabad, eats in roadside dhabas and almost gives up on his mission in Udaipur. Refusing to be a ‘quitter’, he adjusts his perspective and ventures on to some of the holiest places in India – the banks of the Ganges River in Haridwar and Rishikesh - via the Taj Mahal.

Even though he is alone, he is not lonely. Even though he has doubts, he is sure of himself. He comes to terms with relationship that has driven him forward on this trip, and in life. He comes to realize that it truly is about the journey. Not because the destination is not meaningful, but because for each and every one of us, the destination is exactly the same.

Shailendra Singh and Rishi Sethia
Salute The Mumbai Police
with Tribute Video

In these unprecedented times of global pandemic, there are countless numbers of essential workers that are risking their lives each and every day to keep Mumbai and it’s citizens safe. And while many residents are doing their part by simply staying at home, some of them are making the most of the time, using their skills sets to thank those who are keeping them safe.

Good friends, Rishi Sethia, the powerful business known as the Architect Behind Modern Power Collectives like Annabel’s in London, had joined hands with Shailendra Singh, India’s Serial Entrepreneur and Inceptor of Percept Ltd, Sunburn, Guestlist4Good and Boss Entertainment, to produce and release a tribute video that celebrates and salutes the Maharashtra State Police and Mumbai Police.

The brave young women and men of the Mumbai Police are out every day and night maintaining order and protecting our city. Not all heroes wear capes, many of them wear uniforms and badges and Shailendra and I felt it important to let them know just how much we appreciate them. I am sure we speak for the entire city when we say, ‘Thank You!’”
— Rishi Sethia (Producer)

The two-minute long tribute video features a wide array of Mumbai Police Constables across the Maximum City, fulfilling their daily range of duty. It offers a glimpse in to the hardships they face, but also the pride they have in their work and the gratitude from citizens who offer their own salutes. It is set to a unique and uplifting version of Vande Mataram, composed by Saleel Kulkarni – Marathi music compser, singer and poet – and sung by Aarya Ambekar – Marathi playback singer, finalist on the first ever season of Sa Re Ga a Marathi Little Champs and youngest recipient of the Manik Varma Scholarship. The video is edited by Manan Kothari and special thanks is given to the Times Group and Times Music.

I was inspired to give the entire country a glimpse in to the extraordinary work that the Maharashtra State Police and the Mumbai Police are doing, often while being unable to stay in their homes or visit their own families. Through this video, Indians everywhere are standing up and saluting these brave warriors.
— Shailendra Singh (Writer & Director)
